BDRR is seeking an Apprentice Kennel Technician for our Veteran's Training Program.
In this position you will play a vital role in the daily care and well-being of our rescue dogs.
This position involves morning cleaning, rotational care, feeding, and administrating medications.
Beyond daily responsibilities, there is the potential under the guidance of the Lead Trainer for this role to evolve into a full-fledged Trainer position.
Must be a team player and willing to learn new things with an open mind.
Duties and Responsibilities Perform daily cleaning and maintenance of kennel areas, ensuring a clean and comfortable environment for the dogs.
Implement a morning rotation schedule for dogs, focusing on physical exercise, mental stimulation, and socialization.
Ensure timely and accurate feeding of dogs according to specified dietary plans.
Administer medications as the veterinary team prescribes, maintaining detailed records of each dog's health.
Under the direction of the Director of Training and with the guidance of the Lead Trainer, receive on-the-job training in all phases of service dog training.
Work closely with the Lead Trainer to learn and implement training plans for individual dogs.
Observe and report any changes in the behavior of health of dogs to the Lead Trainer.
Participate in behavioral assessments of new dogs entering the program.
Interact with military veterans participating in the program guiding the veteran in basic dog care and handling.
Requirements and Qualifications Willingness to work with veterans with PTSD.
Previous experience in a kennel or animal care environment is a plus.
Demonstrate a strong commitment to learning and developing skills in dog training.
Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
Ability to perform physical tasks, including lifting, cleaning, and handling of dogs of all sizes.
Willingness to work collaboratively with the Lead Training and other team members.
Must be dependable with attendance and timeliness.
Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks.
Experience training dogs.
High School diploma.
Valid driver's license required.
Salary:
$13- $16.
